Alkaline Phosphate test measures the amount of alkaline phosphatase enzyme in your blood.
Alkaline Phosphatase is measured as part of routine Liver Function Tests, to assess liver or bone disease and is also used to monitor treatment for these disorders.
Your doctor may recommend this test for you if you show the signs of a liver disease or/and bone disorder. They include:

Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) is found throughout the body in all the tissues. However, dense concentrations of ALP are found in the liver, bile duct and bone. ALP does the function of removing phosphates from many different molecules in the body.

Interpretations
A higher than normal level of ALP may be observed in Biliary Obstructions (obstructions in the bile duct), bone diseases, bone tumour, hepatitis, liver disease etc. Lower than normal ALP levels may be due to protein deficiency, Wilson’s disease, Malnutrition etc. Post-menopausal women and pernicious anaemia could also lead to low levels of ALP Gall bladder disease and alcohol abuse can also lead to imbalances in ALP levels.
