This test is intended for the detection of Influenza A H1N1 virus (Swine Flu). R. A swab sample from the nose or the back of throat is collected for testing. You and your doctor may mandatorily be required to fill a form before testing. This form is mandatory as per government protocols.
While Swine Flu recovery in normal individuals progresses well with treatment and management, pregnant women, children, elderly people, patients with a history of heart and lung disease, immunocompromised individuals; i.e. HIV patients may be at a greater risk of complications arising from Swine Flu. Therefore, rapid and accurate diagnosis is extremely important and that is why the H1N1 Swine Flu PCR test is recommended.
Your doctor may order this test if you show symptoms for a Swine Flu infection. This is possible if you may have recently travelled to an area that has an outbreak of Swine Flu.
The term "swine flu" refers to influenza in pigs and the disease was first spread to humans who were in direct contact with pigs. This is a highly contagious infection and spreads from one person to another like the common cold and cough. In 2009, the WHO had declared Swine Flu as a pandemic but a decade later, Swine Flu is no longer as scary as it was.
It is important to get tested in time and get adequate rest and fluids for a proper recovery. Your doctor may also advise a vaccine, or a flu shot if you are pregnant or for kids who are less than five years old. Swine Flu is a cause for concern when mild flu like symptoms progress into severe symptoms like breathlessness, chest pain, sputum with blood etc. It is important to get tested and hospitalized to avoid complications.
